HALFTIME ACTIVITIES

Embracing God's calling and moving from success to significance.

What Is Halftime
Halftime, the book, has been an inspiration to me. Following the release of the book Halftime in 1994, Bob Buford received hundreds of calls from business and professional leaders who resonated with its message: multiply all God has given you, and in the process, give it back. The prevailing comments were, "This story was more about me than it was Bob, how do I implement what was encouraged?" and "Is there really life after success?" In 1998, Bob launched Halftime, the organization, to answer these questions and many others.  Mitch has been inspired by the book Halftime which was part of the 12 month reading material of Joshua's Men, a program of The Gathering/USA Palm Beach County.

The mission of Halftime is to inspire business and professional leaders to embrace God's calling and move from success to significance. Bob often challenges halftimers by asking them, "Do you want to get to the end of your life, stand before God and hear Him say...'So what?' No, you want Him to tell you 'Well done.'"

Mission Emanuel is an ongoing Dominican Republic outreach ministry of The Gathering, USA, Inc., a non-profit organization that has brought together missionaries from around the world dedicated to improving the lives of the Dominican people by providing health care, education, better living conditions and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.  For several years, Mission Emanuel has been led by a group of dedicated Christians whose main concern was the physical and spiritual welfare of the people of the town of Nazaret and the surrounding communities.  Approximately 4 times a year, teams from the US travel to the Dominican to work in and around the community.  The physical labor that needs to be done always seems to get done, but hearts are restored in the process.

Mobility Golf's mission is to increase opportunities for those who can't walk to play golf.  A primary objective is to get every golf course to provide and adaptive golf car - one with hand controls and a swivel seat.  The immediate problem is that only about 2% of the 16,000 golf courses in the United States provide accessible golf cars.  In addition, there was no information source for a disabled golfer to find the few golf courses that are currently accessible (visit their website and type in your zip code to find a course in your area with an adaptive golf cart).  According to a survey by the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 21% of their members would play golf if it were accessible (there are 6.8 million disabled Americans).  Mobility Golf also provides advocacy assistance to people who are denied access to golf facilities; present position papers to governmental entities and key policy-makers; testify in public hearings; and coordinate activities with disability organizations and major golf organizations.  Membership opportunities are available and contributions are always welcome!
