"The greatness of a golf club is measured by more than its course. After all, you don’t join a club just for the golf. You’re looking for a respite from everyday life, a sense of camaraderie and a pitch-perfect atmosphere—as well as a great course. A visit to the club is an experience to be savored, for longtime members and first-time guests alike. Here are 10 aspects of club life that help provide that perfect day." The Ideal Golf Club By Geoff Shackelford
Person
Cart Staff: PGA Golf Club, Port St. Lucie, FL; At this non-tipping Club, individual cleaning clubs after a round of golf refused to accept a tip. Even with further encouragement, individual refused the tip, complying with Club policy of being a non-tipping Club.
Clubhouse Manager:The Loxahatchee Club, Jupiter, FL; Noticed an unexpected guest at a CMAA Christmas party was in a wheel chair. Took time to determine who that person was a guest of, where their assigned seat was located and prepared the table and removed a chair to easily accommodate the disabled person, without being asked. This attention to detail brought tears to a fathers eyes.
Locker Room Attendant:Seminole Golf Club, Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Attendant noticed a guest had dirty golf shoes upon arrival at the Club and cleaned the golf shoes before play. How much do you think that actually cost the Club in out of pocket dollars?
Locker Room Manager: Eagle Point, Wilmington, NC; Encouraged golfers to plan where they were eating dinner. If at the Club, staff had to be scheduled. If going down town, somebody needed to be the designated driver and he needed to inform his wife of his plans for the evening. Larry is the ultimate concierge.
Location
Restrooms On Golf Course: Quail Creek Country Club, Naples, FL; Restrooms on the golf course were upgraded with fixtures and adornment comparable to that found in the Clubhouse. Why not?
Men's Restroom: Islesworth Golf & Country Club, FL; Gray flannel splash pad located in urinal vs common plastic types. A touch of class everywhere.
19th Hole: Could your 19th hole be deemed one of the best in the country? How about in your city? How would your Members describe your 19th Hole? Below is a quote that I wish came from my me. "Maybe it's the way a cold beer soothes your throat after 36 holes, or how a room of tartan and wood somehow eases the pain of your 102. Maybe it's the bartender who knows your drink, or it's the one place you can discuss your round without the person next to you glazing over ... probably. Whatever the reason, when the last putt drops, golfers never seem to ask, "What do we do now?" The 19th hole is as much a part of golf as the previous 18. It's the place where you settle up the nassau. Or order the 25-year-old Speyside whiskey because that lucky so-and-so aced the fifth hole, and he's buying."
